CARTHAGE, MO.--- The Jasper County animal control officer says animals can get frost bite just like humans. Over the weekend, deputies were called to an area where a horse they suspect died because of the cold.

The control officer recommends that owners with 2 or 3 horses give them blankets. Groups of horse are less prone to the cold because they will huddle together. Officers also remind people that they are here to help.

"It's better to call us before something bad happens. If they don't take care of the situation, it's going to turn out wrong for them," states Keith Maggard, Jasper County Animal Control Officer.

Deputies say horse owners should keep feeding their animals despite rising hay prices. They say if you need help, people do occasionally donate hay. For more information, you can contact the Jasper County Animal Control.

Comments

I know of a horse that could be in trouble. Will drive by and check on some things before I report it. Don't want it to suffer.
