Energy Efficiency Ruling

JOPLIN - On Tuesday, The Western District Court of Appeals upheld a public service commission ruling that outlines how energy companies throughout the state can charge customers.
The ruling re-affirms a law passed in 2009 allowing large electric utility companies to recover costs they lose from major energy efficiency programs, and then pass those costs on to consumers. Non-profit energy efficiency groups see this decision as an all around victory for Missouri residents.
"For the typical homeowner you are going to see more programs that they can participate in to enjoy energy efficiency," says PJ Wilson, Director of Renew Missouri, a non-profit energy advocacy group. "Programs for themselves, and also have the confidence to know that the utility is investing in the least cost resource," Wilson adds.
The 2009 law that was recently upheld by the court is called the Missouri Energy Efficiency Investment Act.
