JOPLIN, MO.--- This week, the Joplin Boys and Girls Club received $15,000 from the U.S. Department of Justice. The money will allow the club to mentor 30 kids for the 2013 fiscal year. Leaders say mentoring programs are crucial for the growth of a community.

"Kids with good mentors are learning positive and good character citizen type roles, so they are learning to go out and be good citizens in the community," said Sarah Mallos, Boys & Girls Club Unit Director.

The grant money will be used to fund outings for the mentor program, and to provide take home supplies for the kids.
