LAMAR, MO.--- The State of Missouri owes Barton County $40,000 for housing inmates last year. The county receives $19 a day for each state prisoner they have. Commissioners noticed they hadn't received the funds while preparing this year's budget.

They say the circuit clerk had not billed the state yet. Commissioners say if they don't receive the money, they would have to cut a deputy position from the sheriff's office.

"The sheriff has 4 right now. He was wanting to go to to 5 and it was looking like he was going to have to go to 3, but we found out that the circuit clerk can bill for last year so we should get that revenue pretty soon," said Dennis Wilson, Barton County Commissioner.

Commissioners expect to receive the reimbursement sometime in February.
