CARTHAGE, MO.--- Supporters gathered at the Carthage Water and Electric Community Room today. United Way directors handed out awards to those who raised the most money.

The organization ended up just shy of their goal of $300,000. United Way workers say they couldn't have done it without the support of local companies.

"We have a lot of employees who are giving out of their paychecks. We don't ask them to take away from their family's need but they're very gracious and giving," states Jenny Mansfield, Carthage United Way Director.

The Carthage United Way supports 13 area nonprofits with the funds raised in its yearly campaign.
