NEOSHO -- Prairie View Estates has been approved for tax credits from the Missouri Housing Development Commission. The $4.3 million project will include 27 houses with three bedrooms each and 1,300 square feet of living space. Twenty of the houses will be leased to families earning 60% or less of the average income in Missouri, which is $24,000 a year. Rent would be $395 a month. The homes will be located south of Wal-Mart near the airort. Neosho city leaders say the development will be a great addition to the city.

"As we work to attract more labor to Neosho, more workers to Neosho, more jobs to Neosho, those workers need somewhere to go, somewhere to live," says Neosho Mayor Richard Davidson. "So, this is going to be a win-win for us and the developer to provide low-income, subsidized housing for those that qualify, but also increase the labor pool for employers and others in Neosho who are looking for workers."

The area is not currently located within city limits, but after the project is complete the subdivision will be annexed. The city has already provided water and sewer to the location. Construction is expected to begin in June and take nine to twelve months to complete.
