International Winner

CARL JUNCTION -- Junior high school student Joanne Kim found out she won $500 as one of the top 24 merit winners of the Lions Club International Peace Poster Competition. After winning at the local and state levels, Joanne's poster was sent to Chicago for international judging. Her artwork was then chosen out of more than 400,000 kids world wide, and 117 finalists. Joanne says making the poster is part of her school's curriculum, and it took about two weeks to finish.
"My main piece was a heart, because, you know, I thought peace started with love," Joanne says. "And then I pt the whole world, because I want the whole world to be full of peace. And I put children all around the world because I just wanted everyone to have peace."
"The Carl Junction Lions Club is very proud of Joanne and we were very happy to have her poster representing our club, and our city and or state in the international competition," says Carl Junction Lions Club member Katie Smith.
Even though Joanne was an international merit winner, organizers say they are proud of all 125 students in the Carl Junction area who entered the competition.
