Update: Royal Heights Incident

By: Briauna Brown
Updated: February 7, 2013
JOPLIN, MO--- Tuesday the Joplin Police Department received a report of a suspicious vehicle around Royal Heights Elementary School via Facebook. The Investigations Bureau began following up on the incident. The report indicated that a male had driven up to the fence outside the school and tried to coax a student into an unknown make and model, orange truck. Detectives contacted the family of the nine-year-old girl and school officials in order to try to piece together the events.

All witnesses were interviewed including the alleged victim, students, school officials, and other witnesses. As a result of those interviews it has been determined that the alleged suspect was yelling at another adult female who lived close to the school and not the school children. The school officials took appropriate action to protect the children from any possible harm. There will be no arrests in this case.

"It is imperative that we investigate fully any allegation involving safety of the children in our community", says Lt. Darren Gallup. "We are happy that this case came to a successful resolution and all the children involved are safe".
