JOPLIN, MO.--- In honor of their 100th day of school, Columbia Elementary students tied the celebration to their community project. Their goal was to collect 100 packages and cans of food for all the animals at the humane society.

Ms. Rea started the program 12 years ago, with the idea to teach her students how important it is to help others. Her students told us they loved the activity, and it felt good to help the puppies.

"Probably making them have healthy things, and hope that they have a good family, and hope they get adopted sometime," said Olivia Walker, Kindergarten Student.

With the help of some 1st graders, Ms. Rea's class collected 399 packages of food for the Joplin Humane Society.
