JOPLIN, MO.--- Mercy E.R. doctors say feeling tired, having non-persistent chest pain, or an occasional headache doesn't necessarily mean you should rush out to the emergency room. However, medical professionals say persistent pain and neurological changes could indicate more serious heart problems.

"If the symptoms are atypical, if they are not common, if a person who doesn't usually have a severe headache or starts noticing changes in their vision, those are all definite signs that they need to be evaluated by a doctor," says Dr. Kenneth Stewart, D.O. Mercy Joplin E.R. Physician.

Dr. Stewart says Heart Month is a good time to go in for regular screenings like checking blood pressure and cholesterol levels, as they are good indicators of heart health.
