BAXTER SPRINGS, KS.--- Baxter Springs City Economic Development Director Gregg Motley says there are a lot of opportunities on Military Avenue, they just need to be taken advantage of.

He says the city's economic future will depend largely on tourism from Route 66. Motley believes the city already sees a high enough traffic count from the Mother Road now, they just need to capitalize on it.

"We're not catching our fair share of the tourism along Route 66. There's a romance with Route 66, especially among Europeans," said Gregg Motley, Economic Development Director.

Motley says several communities in the county are already working together to help foster new businesses by helping to repay closing costs to new business owners.
