Police say they will continue the investigation today into the abduction of two small children, who were inside a car that was stolen from a parking lot on Commercial Street Saturday afternoon.
Harmony J. Blue, 13 months, and Jerry Blue III, 4, were in the car when a woman, described as a blonde, white woman, jumped into the car and took off. It happened about 1:30 Saturday on the parking lot of the Save-a-Lot store, 1117 E. Commercial.
Police say the father of the children had left the children in the car while he ran into a store. He also left the keys inside.
About two hours later, the suspect left 4-year old Jerry out of the car near Madison and Newton, where a woman gave him shelter and called police.
Then, about 8 hours later, the maternal grandfather of the children spotted the stolen car in the parking lot of an apartment building at 424 W. Mt. Vernon. Harmony was still in the back seat, but appeared to be unharmed.
Investigators today continue to follow up on leads after collecting evidence from the stolen Nissan Maxima. Police are asking anyone with information that might assist in locating the suspect in this case to call 864-1810 or Crime Stoppers at 869-8477(TIPS).
KOLR10 News spent time with the family of the children Saturday, and was with them when they got the news Harmony had been found.
"We are thankful for everything and blessings we've received from this," says Jerry Blue Jr., the father of the children.
The one year old girl was found just before 10:00 p.m. Saturday. "We are thankful for that. Her grandfather found her," says Blue.
"He was searching and riding and a support team and a lot of us out there and he deserved all the credit cause he was out there and found her....I'm angry-- but at the same time im thankful and blessed that the Lord sent her back to us in one piece."
