CASSVILLE -- Firefighters responded to call a little before 11AM Sunday at the McDonalds on Main Street in Cassville. As they arrived, flames were coming through the roof. The restaurant was open when the fire started, but all customers and employees were able to evacuate the building safely. State fire marshals are still trying to determine what cause the fire. Firefighters from Cassville, Butterfield, Exeter and Monett helped put out the flames. It took crews more than three hours to completely extinguish the fire.
"It's just difficult to get to," says Cassville fire chief Millard Andrews. "A lot of equipment in there. A lot of grease vents, a lot of heavy units from the roof that has fallen in."
The building has been declared a total loss. The restaurant had just been remodeled, and McDonalds management says they were planning to hold a grand reopening at the end of the month.
