Updated: March 11, 2013
MISSOURI--- Missouri's chief executive is speaking out against a proposed sales tax increase. Governor Jay Nixon objects to the half cent hike under consideration in Senate Bill 26.

If approved, the state sales tax would increase one-tenth of 1% each year for the next 5 years. Nixon says the added cost would strain the budgets of Missourians and hamper the economy. The state portion of the sales tax is currently 4%.
