Jay Middle School Principal Manslaughter Trial Begins

By: Jennifer Penate
Updated: March 18, 2013
JAY, OK.--- The trial of a Jay middle school principal charged with manslaughter begins today. Roger Shane Carroll, 39, is charged in the death of his friend Monte Price, 39. About 40 witnesses are expected to testify in the trial that is expected to last up to 10 days.

According to the G.R.D.A., Carroll and 3 others were in a boat on Grand Lake last July when they struck a breakwater. The crash threw Price into the lake leading to his accidental drowning. A blood-alcohol test after the crash showed Carroll's alcohol content was over the legal limit.

Prosecutors are now trying to prove that Carroll was operating the boat at the time of the crash. Carroll's attorney says evidence will prove Carroll was not driving. Carroll is currently on unpaid administrative leave from the school district.
