Your Votes at Work

Updated: January 7, 2009
Voters agree on one big issue at the polls, but deny another. With only one sales tax proposition passing in yesterday`s election, the city of Joplin will only get to make half of their planned improvements. At the top of the improvement list is storm water problems. Several streets are in need of improvements, but officials say the downtown area will probably be taken care of first. Plans will also begin for a sports complex that will be built in the city and officials say with larger plans in the works, smaller plans will begin right away. The tax won`t go into effect until January 1st, but plans for the projects should be forthcoming soon.
