A Southeast Kansas man convicted of conspiracy to commit murder and burglary is facing more jail time than he expected. 45-year-old Steve Wood of Franklin was convicted in Cherokee County District Court. The convictions stem from a 1999 plot to kill to area residents involved in a large-scale methamphetamine cooking operation. Wood turned down a plea bargain that carried no prison time. He now faces a sentence of 9 to 41 years behind bars. Official sentencing will be set at a later date.
