A long time area employer is cutting its workforce again. Key Industries of Fort Scott Kansas closed three plants across the U.S. last year, displacing 280 workers. Now, about 300 additional jobs are being cut as three more plants have shut down. Among those closures include a facility in Nevada Missouri, where 56 employees are being let go. About 130 people will continue to work out of the corporate office and distribution center in Fort Scott. A spokesperson says clothes manufacturing will now be done on a contract basis with plants in Mexico, El Salvador, and China. The company is using trust fund money to try and help displaced workers find new jobs.
