Updated: January 7, 2009
A Four State senator introduces legislation to help rape victims prosecute their attackers. Senator Marvin Singleton introduced the bill. It would lift the statute of limitations that currently applies to the prosecution of forcible rape and sodomy. Right now victims only have three years from the date of the offense to file charges. Singleton says this is his top priority for the 2002 session. Forcible rape and sodomy are the state`s two most serious sexual assault offenses and can bring up to life imprisonment. Missouri lawmakers began pre-filing bills on December 1st and the 2002 legislative session will begin on January 9th.
