Updated: January 7, 2009
An Arkansas man connected to a mysterious burned van discovered in Ottawa County is arrested. Officials with the Bureau of Indian Affairs say Robert Thomas Whitmer was arrested in a Rogers Arkansas motel room for unrelated weapons charges. Whitmer is not being treated as a suspect in the murder investigation, but he is a former owner of the 1981 white Chevy van. Records show Whitmer sold the van two months ago, it has been sold twice since then. The current owner of the van has not been seen since Friday. Investigators think he could be the victim, but won`t know for sure until the results of an autopsy scheduled for today. Currently, the Oklahoma medical examiner is attempting to locate dental records for a positive identification or to eliminate the current owner as the victim inside the burned van.
