Four State officers have a new weapon against crime and it`s less dangerous than traditional uses of force. Special guns that shoot miniature bean bags will stop a suspect but not cause permanent injuries. About one ounce of bird shot shell exits the muzzle at miles per hour, bruising the skin but not seriously injuring the person. The beanbag guns are most effective in situations where a person threatens their own life or that of officers. Each and every Newton County officer now carries one of the guns in their vehicle.
