A Four-State college is feeling the pinch of a statewide budget cut. Missouri Southern State College of Joplin will lose nearly $400,000 after Governor Holden cuts the budget. Friday the governor announced that 2% of state appropriations to institutions of higher education with be withheld. That comes in addition to an already $1.1 million dollars that was already withheld earlier this year. Of the state withholdings announced Friday, higher education took the biggest single hit, a total of almost $19 million. Just last week, the college approved a $12-per hour tuition surcharge for the spring semester.
