Joplin residents could soon see a spring festival come to town. Joplin City Council members discussed the recent efforts to bring a spring festival to the Joplin area, which could get a boost from the council. Tonight in the informal meeting officials with the Joplin Convention and Visitors Bureau asked for the councils blessing to proceed with the project. The event will go by the name Festival of the Four States. If approved, several blocks in downtown Joplin would be blocked off. It will then include spaces for vendors and entertainment. Tonight, the council gave there blessing to the project. At the next council meeting the bureau hopes to receive about $32,000 in funding to help get the project off the ground. The money would come from city funds that have been left over from the citywide hotel/motel tax for use in festivals. If approved, the festival of the Four States will be held May 31st to and June 1st. Council members will vote to approve the funding at the next city council meeting.
