Joplin police officers plan to work over time to curb underage drinking this holiday season, thanks to grant money from the Office of Juvenile Justice. An extra six officers will be on patrol specifically looking for underage drinkers. One a month for the next five months, officers will spend the weekend fighting the problem. The department says last year underage drinking in Joplin lead to two deaths and $50,000 in vandalism. Officers hope just the knowledge that they are out there will deter those under the age of 21 from even buying alcohol.
