Updated: January 7, 2009
Four State residence voice concerns over a new series of poultry plants in the area. The Simmons Company recently purchased several large plots of land in Ottawa County Missouri with intensions of building chicken houses. A company spokesman says ultimately they hope to build 90 to 100 houses in the general area. Land owners are concerned the concentration of houses in such a small area will lead to pollution problems and lower the value of their property. Residence first looked to commissioners for help with the situation but they say their hands are tied. Homeowners in the area say they are not concerned about chicken houses in general, several are in the business themselves. It`s the large number of houses in such a small area that has them worried the most. A special meeting is scheduled for concerned citizens. Monday night at seven at the civic center in Miami Oklahoma. A reprehensive from Simmons will be on hand to answer questions about water concerns.
