An accident claims the life of a Four State sheriffs deputy. The incident happened earlier this evening in North Joplin. It`s been a sad evening for members of the Jasper County Sheriffs Department as they morn the loss of one of their own. An accident tonight has taken the life of Sergeant Scott Arner. He was a member of the departments dive team. Apparently members of the Jasper County dive team were looking for evidence during an investigation when Sgt. Arner did not come up. The divers were searching for evidence in a pond. The pond was ice covered and it`s still unclear exactly what went wrong during the dive. This was the second location officials had been searching today. Captain Tony Coleman says the incident happened as officers were wrapping up their investigation for the evening. Coleman says Arner had been underwater for quite some time. He was taken by Medflight to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Arner had been a member of the department for almost 13 years.
