Jefferson City Open Container Bill

Another effort is under way in Jefferson City to ban open alcohol containers in vehicles. Republican Senator Morris Westfall of halfway says the bill will save lives and allow the state to receive federal highways funds. Westfall successfully helped pass legislation last year lowering the blood alcohol level for drunken drivers. While Anheuser-Busch did not oppose that measure, the St. Louis-based brewer is expected to challenge the open container measure. At least 31 states have a ban on open containers in vehicles. The senate transportation committee heard the bill yesterday but did not take a vote.
