The Missouri senate has given initial approval to a bill giving prosecutors unlimited time to issue charges in rape and sodomy cases. The senate vote comes one day after the house sent its version of the bill to the senate. Lawmakers say the bills, which are nearly identical could be on the governor`s desk in a few weeks. Two years ago, the state appeals court in Kansas City ruled the existing law has a three-year statute of limitations for rape and sodomy crimes. Supporters of this year`s bill say changes in dna technology allow investigators to solve crimes many years after they happen.
