Four State residents gather in search of answers at a local meeting Tuesday night. More than 50 men and women met at the Crawford County Kansas District-1 rural water meeting tonight where they presented board members with numerous questions about actions conducted by the board.
It was common knowledge among residents in Crawford County Rural District 1 that attendance for tonight`s meeting would be high, but capacity was more than exceeded at the water plant. Men and women wrapped in blankets lined the outside of the plant while inside, things were more than heated.
Led by Tim Gitner, twelve questions were raised about expenditures including more than $17,000 in equipment to fill the small meeting room. Also, more than $2,000 in unaccounted for miscellaneous spending. But the most heated topic concerned six year board member, Doug Conner and an alleged phone call he made to the state office in Topeka, inquiring about intentional contamination of water sources within the district. Now residents say they want him out. Board members did the best they could to answer those 12 questions and did not remove Conner from his position. A special meeting is scheduled for the 23rd of this month.
