Updated: January 7, 2009
Fire fighters battle a blaze at a Four State church that spares the newly renovated sanctuary. Smoke was pouring from the windows of the First Baptist Church in Baxter Springs Friday afternoon as fire fighters arrived. Smoke filled several rooms of the church but the fire was contained to a small library. Dozens of books and photo albums were destroyed. The church has undergone a major renovation over the past two years. This Sunday, members of the church planned to meet and re-dedicate the renovated building. Quapaw, Picher and Columbus fire fighters also responded to the call for help. The fire chief says he is amazed there wasn`t more damage.
