Thousands of Missouri fishermen and women cast their lines today, marking the opening of trout season. 27-year-old Kelly Poynter, a state trooper who died in the line of duty was honored at Bennett Spring State Park, near Lebanon. His sons, ages eleven and nine, sounded the opening siren. Poynter was killed in January while working a traffic accident. In other parts of the state, about 1,900 trout enthusiasts braved the cold, wet weather at Roaring River State Park, near Cassville.
