Updated: January 7, 2009
A Fort Scott teacher is charged in Bourbon County with 22 separate crimes. Randy Carter has worked as a biology teacher and coach in Fort Scott for more than 10 years. He is accused of videotaping girls in his home as they used a tanning bed. He now faces 9 felony charges including 6 counts of sexual exploitation of a child. All of the females involved in this case are students in the Fort Scott School District. Wednesday, Randy Carter appeared before a judge to have the charges read and possible punishment explained should he be proven guilty. In the meantime, the defense asked the judge to reduce the $50,000 bond in the case. While the judge did not grant that request, he will allow Carter to use the deed on his home to help cover the amount. The judge also placed several restrictions on Carter including no unsupervised visits with minors, excluding his son. He also cannot have any contact with the victims in the case.
