An area neonatal intensive care unit is experiencing growing pains. Construction is nearing completion on the newly expanded Freeman NICU four additional beds are being added to care for infants, as well as two sleep-over rooms for families. Hospital officials say other technical improvements are designed to decrease the time it takes to get test results back from the lab. Danny Caylor - Dir. of Facilities Freeman Hosp. "Having the tube system here in the department will save time due to the fact that the lab is a quarter mile away so they can send a specimen and receive them without ever having to leave the department, which is a major improvement, they didn`t have that before." Construction started in mid-February and is expected to be complete by mid-May. The Freeman Foundation needs to raise a million dollars to pay for the upgrade.
