Super Bowl Host Committee Stresses Conservation With "1st and Green"

The Super Bowl is now less than three weeks away.  And when the Big Game kicks off, you'll hear a lot about 1st and 10.  But leading up to the game, there is another term you may be hearing about.  That term is 1st and Green.  Here's a hint...it's not a reference to the color of the football field.

1st and Green is actually an environmental challenge competition created by the 2012 Indianapolis Host Committee.  The initiative encouraged conservation of water and energy.

The results of the challenge are in and are pretty amazing.  Teams of individuals and and groups collectively saved more than two million gallons of water and more than one million pounds of carbon.  This was achieved by documenting changes in personal behavior by members of the teams.  Simple things like turning off the faucet while brushing teeth and even carpooling to work contributed to the results.

Those with the highest levels of savings will be recognized for their efforts on January 29th.  For a list of winners and other 1st and Green initiatives leading up to Super Bowl XLVI, click on the attachments at the bottom of this page.
