Eli Manning threw for 316 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Giants back to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2007. Victor Cruz caught 10 passes for 142 yards for New York, which capitalized on a fumbled punt return by Kyle Williams deep in San Francisco territory in the overtime. It was Williams' second costly fumble of the game as he took over return duties for an injured Ted Ginn.
Vernon Davis caught three passes for two touchdowns and 112 yards receiving for the 49ers. Alex Smith threw for 196 yards with the two scores, while Frank Gore ran for 74 yards in the loss.
The Niner defense sacked Manning six times but couldn't recover from Williams' two turnovers.
The Giants will meet the New England Patriots in Indianapolis for a rematch of Super Bowl 42 which was won by New York, 17-14. The Patriots defeated the Baltimore Ravens, 23-20, earlier Sunday to advance to the big game.
