Alshon Jeffery Feature 8/22/12

By: Peter Fleischer
Updated: August 24, 2012

Alshon Jeffery wasn't the Bears first pick in the NFL draft in April.  But he's could be the rookie who makes the biggest impact on the team this season.

The Bears' second round pick is using the 'keep it simple' approach as a rookie.

"I'm just trying to learn," said Jeffery. "Trying to get better every day."

Jeffery will have to let his play on the field do his talking, because he's very soft spoken...at least around the media.  And the Bears believe his play will make some noise.  He has the height and the hands to be successful.  The downside is he doesn't have blazing speed and he's not the most polished route runner.  That part should come in time.

"I'm pretty comfortable, but I still got to adjust certain things and get the process down a lot more.  The playbook and everything," said Jeffery.

Jeffery's numbers in college at South Carolina were impressive.  Especially his junior year when he hauled in 88 passes for more than 15 hundred yards.  Keep in mind that was in the Southeastern Conference...the best conference for college football in the nation, and perhaps the best passing conference in the nation.

"I would say the SEC is pretty tough which is basically like the NFL," said Jeffery. "Not the speed of it, but it's the closest thing to it.  If you look at the National Championship the SEC has won the last six or five, so it's pretty close to that.

This rookie knows the Bears are counting on him. It's time to go to work.

"That's what it's all about.  You just have to go out and compete and make plays."
