Chicago, Illinois-The Bears accomplished two goals Sunday against the Colts. They got a win, and they got to rest Brian Urlacher in the second half, although that second accomplishment didn't exactly make Urlacher happy.
Brian Urlacher made it clear after the game that he did not like having to sit out the second half.
"No I don't like coming out of the game, but that's the head
coach, so I do what he says," said Urlacher.
Lovie Smith says the plan all along was to pace Urlacher and limit his playing time and the stress on his knee because Urlacher missed the entire preseason
"Of course Brian wanted to play the entire game, and
when we told him he was going out it's not like he said, 'OK Lovie that's a
great idea.' But there's a bigger picture, and we wanted to get him a little
bit of work. This is his first action," said Smith.
"I felt good. I had no issues running around. No
pain. Nothing like that," said Urlacher. "I felt good. That stupid brace was there, but that was
about it.
"
While Urlacher was sitting out the second
half he had plenty of time to observe the
Bears offense, and he was impressed with what he saw.
"Jay and Brandon's awesome. Alshon did a good job. Matt's Matt. The offensive line did a good job up front and just pretty good balance I think," said Urlacher.
So Urlacher will be good to go against the
Packers, and the Bears will need everything they can get from their Pro Bowler.
