Steve Weatherford received the VIP treatment and a hero's welcome as he returned to his alma mater.

The 2001 Terre Haute North Graduate returned home after taking part in Media Day at the Super Bowl.

He's North's all time punting leader, and now, he could become the school's first-ever Super Bowl champion.

"Like Danny said, I called him about 11 last night and said, 'hey, I think I've got some free time, enough to come back to Terre Haute and see you.'  And he said, 'I think the kids would love to see you.'  "So they threw this together last minute.  "It's special and a really good feeling."

The student body showed Weatherford they're just as fired up for the big game as he is.  When asked about the mood of his football team, Steve told me the New York Football Giants are loose and confident heading into Super Bowl Sunday.

Steve's demeanor reflected that confidence, as well as the humility he showed, humbled by a community that's given him so much.

"That's how everyone in Terre Haute has been the last several years.  Come home, and it's the warmest welcome you can imagine.  There's no greater feeling in the world to be appreciated like I'm appreciated when I come home."
