Reminder: Special Election Tuesday in Handful of Ozarks Counties

(Springfield, MO)--Voters in a few Ozarks counties will decide a handful of issues Tuesday, in what is expected to be a sparsely attended special election.

In Greene County, voters within the Springfield city limits will decide whether to repeal the city's smoke-free law, passed by voters in April 2011.  A petition effort by opponents is forcing the issue back to the ballot.   In May, the City Council approved several exemptions to the ordinance.

In Fair Grove, continuation of a 1/2-cent sales tax is on the ballot.  The money would be collected for 156 years and pay for capital improvements.  The current capital improvements sales tax was due to expire in 2013.  City leaders say the tax rate will not increase from its current level.

Voters in Pleasant View will vote on a 50-cent levy per $100 assessed value, to support the Pleasant View Fire Protection District.  A simple majority is needed.

And voters in portions of four counties will vote on whether to allow a property swap between the Spokane and Galena school districts.
The school districts have voters in Stone, Barry, Christian and Taney counties.
