Todd Akin's Visit to Ozarks Met With Cheers, Protests

In a rally at the Christian County Republican Headquarters in Nixa, Akin said he wants fewer taxes and smaller government.
He also addressed those controversial comments about what he called "legitimate rape" and he moved on.

She says the congressman's comments in August didn't change her opinion.
"I speak as a woman and as a person who's been through a violent attack, that he's absolutely the person that I'm going to support."
The congressman drew distinctions between himself and the incumbent Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill. The senator has been touting a moderate rating in recent ads.
"It's a very clear choice between Claire McCaskill and Todd Akin, isn't it?" he asked the crowd.
He also talked about ratings from several organizations. Congressman Akin says he wants full repeal of the new healthcare law. We asked him about the provisions regarding care for those with preexisting conditions and coverage for young people under their parent's plan.
"I'm not saying there aren't certain things, such as possibly extending health coverage in terms of the age of the kids, but that's not ObamaCare."
Akin's appearance in the Ozarks wasn't void of protesters.
The Missouri Progressive Vote Coalition gathered a group who are opposing Akin's position on the Bush-era tax cuts. They say it would give people who make more than $1 million a year an average tax break of $160,000 while raising taxes on millions of working families and cutting Medicaid and Medicare.
"I do plan on voting for Senator McCaskill," said Matthew Patterson. "I'm not out here on her behalf; I'm out here on behalf of working Missourians to stand up and fight for the 98 percent who are going to have to pay more taxes if the Ryan plan goes into effect."
