Fight Between Arkanasas Secretary of State, Clerks Heats Up

The fight between some county clerks and the Arkansas Secretary of State's office is heating up.
Pulaski County Clerk Larry Crane thinks he and other Democrat clerks are owed an apology.

"I think that an apology is probably due to all of my employees, to all of the people that work so hard to make this process work, to all of the election officials that are part of it," Crane said.

The controversy started last week when Secretary of State spokesman Alex Reed, speaking on his own time before Republicans in Union County, implied Democrat clerks were not doing their job. He told the GOP audience Republican clerks should be elected to those offices.

Alex Reed would not comment.

And the Secretary of State's office would not go on camera but they did give us a statement.

"If Mr. Crane considers it inappropriate for people to question his hard work, then why is (it) okay for him to question the hard work of our elections division..."
