Yard Sign Theft Gets Ugly

AMARILLO -- Five weeks before the November elections, it's slowly turning to yard sign season.

Signs supporting political candidates are popping up across the panhandle.

But, voicing that support sometimes comes at a price.

It's often said politics in Texas is a contact sport, bring a helmet.

You don't see it often in small local races, but, openly express an opinion about a big race with a yard sign and that metaphorical helmet becomes more of a requirement.

A sign for the Obama/Biden ticket was stolen from this yard a couple of weeks ago.  And while that happens to both parties, the letter she received a few days later is what concerns the homeowner.

The stamped letter without a return address didn't contain a threat.  But, was intimidating.

The homeowner says the letter contained a picture of aborted fetuses and with a caption saying "Obama: Pro death baby killer."

Police have not determined if the sign theft is related to the letter.  But, they are investigating.
