SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A state representative from Willard is his party's apparent nomination for Secretary of State.

Shane Schoeller, who was leading the Republican race by almost 5,000 votes with 99% of precincts reporting,  spoke to KOLR10 News Tuesday night at a Republican watch party in Springfield.

"Greene County has been very generous with their votes tonight," he said. "We've been very grateful for all the voters here in Greene County and Southwest Missouri that have come out to support me, because clearly we want a change in the direction in the office of Secretary of State with the current administration."

Schoeller joined Lt. Governor Peter Kinder in claiming Secretary of State Robin Carnahan abused her office by writing biased ballot language related to health insurance exchanges. He says voter ID will be a big issue in November.

With 99% of precincts reporting, the vote count in this race:
Schoeller:  193,033
Scott Rupp:  188, 491
Bill Stouffer:  165,493
