SPRINGFIELD, Mo. --Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Missouri, was stumping for votes in Springfield.  She spent part of the day Monday at the annual Labor Day picnic at Fassnight Park.

McCaskill told supporters her campaign is focusing on issues rather than recent controversial remarks by her opponent, Rep. Todd Akin, R-Missouri.

She says this election cycle is a bit more difficult because there aren't as many presidential campaign efforts focused on Missouri.

The incumbent thinks Akin will stay in the race and she believes to Republican supporters who pulled their money from him will eventually put money back in his race.

"Let me be the first to tell you that I will not be shocked if they find some way to get that sneaky, anonymous, backroom money through some door into the airwaves in Missouri," McCaskill told reporters.  "I'm certainly not counting on no outside money in the last 60 days."

McCaskill also told reporters she will not attend this week's Democratic National Convention. Instead, she will travel to college campuses around the state to talk about student loans.
